Hope that *is* the soundtrack you're getting. + the usual stuff, change clothes, car etc.Īnyway, needless to say I'm really looking forward to this. Pull over and pay fine (speeding or minor driving offense).īribe them when caught (more serious offenses)įind a phone booth call your 'man inside' and bribe him to call off the chase (cool!). Not that there's a huge difference in the end result, I just like the details.

Getting into cars - shoot the lock (takes a few shots) or shoot the window or smash the window with you elbow + pick the lock (only full game). With so much rubbish out there it's great when some companies (CA being another one) really produce stunning products (if the demo's anything to go by at least!). Game's fantastic IMO, really like this dev team's work + always have. The radio chitchat about 'modern technology' is possibly a little over done too, though I don't really mind that much. that said lots of people seem to think it's a cool feature so maybe it's just me that finds it dumb/childish/out of place.

Seems like someone from Marketing got involved when they really shouldn't have.

Personally I think this is pretty lame and to me it doesn't seem to fit with the otherwise serious vibe of the game. Just have a look around (shop counters, next to your radio at home, even in the distillery on a work bench I think). If you want to use the speed limiter press Dude Mafia 2 looks a lot better and runs perfectly!Īlso, you know you can change the realism of the driving model in the options, right? + speeding is still an issue, the cops will pull you over etc.

Yes, all good - Runs like a dog on my machine. the way objects are positioned relative to each other etc in a very natural manner rather than just - 'make object, place in room.'Īnyway. the little touches that makes places seem real, used and lived in, for e.g. One final thing that I love is that the environment artists are good at 'story telling,' i.e. Seems to me like the Mafia artists study their subject really carefully and are technically good too (consistent texturing, good scale, proportions, scene composition, lighting and so on). A quick google for a few ref images, quick modeling job and a visit to cgtextures and I'm done." Ahem. These guys (2KCzech/Illusion) really do their research too, which means when you're exploring a location it seems very real rather than just "well, I know what a garage looks like and don't need detailed reference to model it. Yeah, regarding art in games - IMO way too many people think it's just down to the engine rather than the quality of the artists and the art direction (though the Illusion engine *is* sweet!).

Generally the game feels slick and right at home on the PC (+ runs brilliantly).Īs an artist myself I just really appreciate what they've achieved and know I'll spend a lot of time with the full game just cruising round, exploring the city and soaking up the atmosphere.

I think they *nailed* the art + audio, plus car physics (simulation) were fun, gunplay felt good (PC + will be better without auto-aim) and I just love the atmosphere and sense of place. But knowing their previous games (Hidden and Dangerous 2 and Mafia 1) I can't wait for the full release with much longer missions, fully open city etc etc. Not had any issues with the PC don't find the actual gameplay in the demo *all that* exciting to be honest (there's just not that much to do and it's all over so quickly).

The atmosphere and attention to detail really do it for me.ĮDIT - Apparently there are a few problems with the demo for the PS3 which have been fixed in the full game (AA support, some physics issues. GTA gets away with a lot of it by being very tongue in cheek though, Mafia isn't at all and takes a much more sombre Dude (saying all that I don't personally have a problem with GTA and have enjoyed those games, but I think I do know where you're coming from, especially regarding player characters that you don't identify with and the general glorification of crime. You don't get to see much story in the demo, but you can get a sense of the atmosphere. Of course there are similarities with GTA + you *can* kill innocents (on the street) and car jack etc, but that's just the choices you have open to you with an 'open world' game.

I tend to always do the 'good thing' in games (N:TW included!) + I don't remember cringing with the first one at any point, in fact the opposite (Mafia 1 mini-SPOLIER: You let 'good' people live who you're meant to hit + help the police in the end, in fact that's how the story's told). Well, the first game wasn't (like GTA) + I'd be surprised if they made the player character unlikable in the sequel.
